One Best Thing: Coaching Without Saying a Word
As technology advances so does the way we can teach students. Studies have shown no one student learns the same way. So we must use a little bit of everything in class. In Jared Rodgers iBook One Best Thing: Coaching Without Saying a Word, he explains that you can teach a student with out even saying a single word. Jared Rodgers is a technology coach at an international coach in Abu Dhabi. Through out his career he has thought 5th grade, Microsoft Technology Courses, and ES Technology in Jakarta, Abu Dhabi, and Manila. While teaching he is also a coach of a variety of sports for all ages. He is also
a member of the Apple Distinguished Educator Class of 2013.
Mr. Rodgers first figures out the usefulness of technology while coaching. While using the app Coaches Eye he was able to show the student athletes what they could improve on. This was a breakthrough become he was no longer just telling them but she could show them how to improve. The app is an interactive video analysis system. You can take videos, slow them down, and draw on the video. This is super useful for showing the form and movement of an athletic motion. Yet there is so much more that it could be used for. Because of the video interaction this could easily be used for a science class. While a chemical reaction is occurring this app can be used to show the exact moment and you can slow down the video and point out where it happens.
While using this type of app there are many ways that you can help a student in class. Students can create videos that they can share with each other. This creates a chance for students to evaluate each video and learn from others. Students will get a chance to get out and do some real life skills. As well learn from other students. You can use this as a group project or individual to assess where the students are in class.
I could see myself using this is class quite a bit. Being an agricultureal teacher I could use this in many ways. The main way I can see this is while students are welding. It can help them understand the angle, speed, and wire length. This can help them become great welders. This will also be helpful for Livestock evaluation. By seeing how the animal moves the students will be able to judge them at a more accurate rate.
